Tonsillectomy Recovery: 1 Week

Tonsillectomy Recovery: 1 Week

It's been about a week since I underwent my tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy. Things were starting to get better this past weekend, as I had been able to eat some relatively solid foods. However, that's all changed again. It seems that the pain is back and is getting worse in new ways.

Initially, I'd had periods of intense drowsiness after taking my painkillers, accompanied by pain, nausea, and dizziness. I was also unable to speak or open my mouth very far. The nausea and dizziness is still occurring on-and-off, but I am able to (awkwardly) talk and open my mouth to the point where I'm able to eat more normally.

Ice cream helps the most!

Starting on around Day 6 after my surgery, I began having increasing amounts of referred ear pain. This is to be expected, but I didn't realize just how bad it would be! Now on Day 8, the referred ear pain is probably worse than the actual pain of the scabbing, in addition to a new pain where it feels like someone is stabbing the inside of my throat.

On a side note, the scabbing is kind of weird/cool looking. It covers the entire backside of my mouth and is bright white. I'm not going to post a picture on here, but if you really want to know how it looks, click here at your own risk.
